Wind

Wind at my back pushing me over
It's edge is so soft
A force so strong
Heard not seen
Felt not touched
A paradox existence
Brings life, brings rain
Lifts birds, lifts planes
Contains butterflies, and hurricanes
Life and death
In a gust, in a breath
It comes and goes all at once
Ever present
Wind

Sandals

Flip flop protection
Let your pedals breathe
Through straps
Ageless, timeless walking
Something so organic
Kicked back and relaxed
Chilled out and all about
The absence of socks
Better hope you don't get chased
But it's okay if you come by water
Wear them on a warm day
Forget the laces
Sandals' soles speak to mine.

Forget the Maybe

Quiet pavement means cars sneak by at fifty miles per hour. Exhilarating, as I walk in such a way so as to be intentionally surprised. Walk the white line between traffic flow and the ditch line. Plugged in to music mostly muffling the engines of automobiles. Songs singing, playing musical messages - more than empty entertainment. I am spoken to and am relating back - pondering present with every step. Guitars and keyboards play the background to this thinking session. I am fortunate to have such a distance to travel. I notice the clean blackness of smooth new pavement and realize my need for sealing and surfacing. I see my ruts so easily stuck in, but I don't have cones and flaggers to control the traffic in my mind. Maybe I'll stay away from the rutted roads and dodge off the shoulder to the path less taken, and I'll find it's travelers - my friends - and move along with my minority gang going gung-ho against the flow. Maybe I won't say maybe.

Forget the maybe.

Crosswalk

I saw a girl one day who walked liker her beauty was her dark little secret
She tried to hide it, but she just couldn't keep it
Hands in pockets, chin down counter-bold
She wore a scarf and a petticoat, as if it were cold
Straight skinny jeans and worn canvas shoes
A guitar over shoulder for singing the blues
She's the girl who sits quietly in the back of her classes
She look up through bangs and black thick-rimmed glasses
And as she walked by, in chance our eyes met
I saw a deepness of blue I could never forget
Alas my strides carried me quickly away
But I'll remember the secret I crossed paths with that day.

Strange Love

Strangers everywhere
Falling in Love in a blink
Two unknown people, all it takes is a wink
or a smirk then butterflies
Following which they will think
"What a rush I've had,
Like never before -
What could it possibly hurt
To try it once more?"
Looking back over shoulder
A nonchalant attempt with intent
Her eyes are much warmer this time
But you are never content
For your flight is leaving
And her taxi door closed
Your baggage is heavy
Your dreams - not as you supposed
The cab runs away, into the pour
As you stand like an island
In front of the door
That slid open for your entry
But instead got cold air
While both you and the door wonder,
"Why isn't life fair?"

Foolish Boy

Foolish Boy
Can't you see that Loves not a toy?
How could you be so fickle, so coy?
You Failed to see the dire consequences
Great walls between friends, will start off as fences
Buying the broken is futile when the victim is priceless
Your swung bat of intentions was masquerading as viceless
You struck deep hatred in me, so don't be surprised when
All the king's horses, and all the kings men, can't put you together again
You were instructed with caution, advice you cast aside
Which is a shame, for now you shall ever abide
In a dark corner of my mind and my heart
Where the same scene plays over - where what I loved, gets ripped it apart.

*

Black star unseen
Shines black, not bright
But only when all thats left
Is light
