Strange Love

Strangers everywhere
Falling in Love in a blink
Two unknown people, all it takes is a wink
or a smirk then butterflies
Following which they will think
"What a rush I've had,
Like never before -
What could it possibly hurt
To try it once more?"
Looking back over shoulder
A nonchalant attempt with intent
Her eyes are much warmer this time
But you are never content
For your flight is leaving
And her taxi door closed
Your baggage is heavy
Your dreams - not as you supposed
The cab runs away, into the pour
As you stand like an island
In front of the door
That slid open for your entry
But instead got cold air
While both you and the door wonder,
"Why isn't life fair?"

I like how the door wonders. It inspires fun thoughts!

This kind of reminds me of the poem you wrote about the girl in the coffee shop. Not just in the romantic sense, but in the sense that the poem was natural to write. A good poem makes the reader forget about all of the mechanics of the poem--this one is close. I am overly sensitive to rhyming poetry, as you know well. But nothing in this poem seems forced. And that is excellent.

poem about a girl in a coffee shop? sounds interesting. I like your stuff, John, gives me a bigger picture of you. Keep it up--you've got a good way of giving a lot of feeling with very few words.
