Paradox of Want

Bittersweet desire
Longs to be fulfilled
But when the void is void no more
The desire then is killed.
So then therefore it's bittersweet
This desire felt so needed
For even though it hungers so
We can never fully feed it.

Secret Wish

I press the Coke bottle to my lips
I raise my wrist, letting liquid slide
A thirst unquenched
For I wished for whiskey
A desire I choose to hide

Coffee Stranger

Unlike most, I hadn't noticed her as she walked in.  My nose was deep in a book as she ordered her drink.  She sat down as my eyes lifted from the pages, and we shared smirks from the corners of our lips.  We hurried away from awkwardness with the breaking of eye contact - I tried to escape with my book - but I wanted to see her ... so I glanced again.

Simple black shoes on crossed legs.  A knee length skirt showed only barely from beneath a long sophisticated khaki jacked - still buttoned - her purse still tucked under-arm.  She wasn't staying long.  Her long sandy hair half up, half down, ornately tied behind her head the same way the rest hung over the side of one shoulder.  Blue eyes, I remember, that now looked around the room, trying to seem busy as she waited.  She must've known that I had noticed her, more than just an object.

Her coffee came, was placed on the counter nearest me.  She took it, already leaving, walking off into the rain.  And I wondered who she was, and why she wasn't staying.

Granted

You took my heart for granted
Once, and then again
You snatched my heart right off my sleeve
With your slight of hand
At first you promised me love
But then you chose to neglect
Now you wonder why its broken
Well, what'd you expect?

?

I write a love song to a question mark
To a girl named fill-in-the-blank
Multiple memories of success amidst failure
Paint the picture of the punctuation mark
That I have fallen in love with.

Finalitude

Either tell me you don't love me
Or convince me that you do
For if my mind is left to wonder
I'll fall out of love with you

The Sailor's Knot

Oh how I wish that I could run
That I could run away with you
But even though I love you so
There is nothing I can do
Day by day, plan by plan
I scheme a way to flee
We are so close to setting sail
So close to being free
But alas my love, we are tied down
And so our sails can't fly
Even though we have the wind
Time is not on our side
